Every driver head sits somewhere on a spectrum between two goals that fight each other: forgiveness (how little a mis-hit costs you) and workability (how much control you have over shape and spin on a well-struck shot). Manufacturers build heads that lean one way or the other, and the marketing rarely tells you which one you actually need.
Forgiveness comes from MOI — moment of inertia, essentially how resistant the clubhead is to twisting when you miss the center of the face. A higher-MOI head keeps ball speed and direction more consistent on toe and heel strikes. The tradeoff is usually a slightly higher, more neutral spin profile that's harder to intentionally shape.
Here's the number that matters: most amateur golfers, including good ones, don't strike the center of the face as often as they think. A driver marketed as "tour-proven" or "low-spin" is often tuned for players who already center their strikes consistently and are trying to solve a specific problem — usually spin that's too high, causing shots to balloon and lose distance. If that's not your problem, that head is solving for something you don't have, at the cost of forgiveness you probably need.

What to bring to the fitting: your swing speed, ball speed, smash factor, launch angle, and spin rate from a few representative swings — not just your best one.
